U.S. and Taiwan Dairy Sectors Forge New Trade Partnership

The U.S. dairy industry moved to strengthen its position in Asia this week. The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC), and the Dairy Association of Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Taipei, marking a milestone for both industries.

The agreement, signed during a USDA-led trade mission, sets out to expand cooperation, grow exports, and defend the role of dairy in healthy diets. It also commits both sides to closer dialogue among producers, industry leaders, and policymakers.

“This partnership is an important development for U.S. dairy producers,” said Gregg Doud, NMPF president and CEO. “Taiwan is a growing market. This agreement ensures U.S. dairy is ready to meet demand for high-quality products in the region.”

Krysta Harden, president and CEO of USDEC, said the deal opens doors for long-term growth. “By strengthening ties between our dairy sectors, we create new avenues for innovation and opportunity. Together, we can showcase the value of dairy while building benefits for consumers and producers in both countries.”

The MOU provides a framework for action. It encourages commercial exchange, promotes industry cooperation, and supports dairy’s place in evolving diets. For U.S. producers, the agreement offers another route to expand exports and bring value back to the farm.

Taiwan already relies heavily on U.S. agriculture, and dairy demand is rising quickly. By formalizing collaboration, both industries aim to capture that growth and ensure a steady flow of safe, high-quality products.

This latest deal builds on NMPF and USDEC’s broader push to strengthen global alliances. With partners like Taiwan, U.S. dairy is positioning itself more firmly in Asia’s competitive markets. At the same time, it reinforces the reputation of American dairy as a trusted source for nutrition and quality.
