The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC), National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), and the Guatemalan Dairy Development Association (ASODEL) have signed an agreement to strengthen collaboration between the U.S. and Guatemalan dairy industries. This partnership aims to promote free and fair trade policies while increasing dairy consumption in both countries.
The agreement focuses on improving communication and knowledge-sharing, emphasizing the economic and social value of the dairy sector, and addressing trade barriers that impact producers and consumers. By working together, both industries can create a more competitive and resilient dairy market.
Krysta Harden, president and CEO of USDEC, highlighted the importance of the agreement, noting that strong trade relationships benefit both U.S. and Guatemalan dairy sectors. She stressed that trade barriers can harm consumers, particularly in Guatemala, and expressed excitement about strengthening this partnership.
Gregg Doud, president and CEO of NMPF, emphasized the shared values and goals of the two dairy industries. He welcomed the collaboration with ASODEL as a step toward advancing effective policies that support dairy growth across the Americas.
Ramiro Pérez, director general of ASODEL, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to improving the competitiveness and sustainability of Guatemala’s dairy industry. He noted that working with USDEC and NMPF will help support local dairy farmers while ensuring Guatemalan consumers have access to high-quality dairy products.
This agreement aligns with similar efforts USDEC and NMPF have undertaken across Latin America. Past collaborations include partnerships with the Colombian Association of Dairy Industry (Asoleche), Sociedad Rural Argentina, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and the Chilean Federacion Nacional de Productores de Leche (Fedeleche). These initiatives reinforce a shared commitment to strengthening dairy trade and industry growth across the region.
