New Funding Round Supports Ontario Farmers with Energy Efficiency Upgrades

477

The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $3 million in a third intake of the Agricultural Stewardship Initiative (ASI), aimed at helping Ontario farmers improve energy efficiency on their operations.

Funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the initiative provides eligible farmers with between $10,000 and $90,000 to support projects that reduce energy use. This includes upgrading or replacing outdated equipment, installing geothermal heating, and adopting high-efficiency systems for ventilation, cooling, heating, refrigeration, lighting, and grain drying.

Since 2023, ASI has allocated up to $12.5 million to support more than 870 farm projects. This third intake brings the total potential investment to $15.5 million.

The broader Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership is a $3.5 billion, five-year investment (2023–2028) by federal, provincial, and territorial governments to strengthen the agriculture sector’s competitiveness and resilience. Of this, $2.5 billion is cost-shared by federal and provincial/territorial governments.

Delivered by the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA), the ASI aligns with efforts to promote sustainable and economically sound agricultural practices. Ontario farmers can apply between August 13 and September 3, 2025, through the OSCIA website.
