As of April 28, 2025, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 has been confirmed in 1,034 livestock premises across 18 U.S. states. Cases include dairy cattle, swine (two cases), and alpacas (one case), with the majority found in dairy cattle. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) continues to update maps showing the latest case numbers and livestock breakdowns.
No HPAI cases have been detected in Canadian dairy cattle.
Animal Health Canada, along with government agencies, veterinary associations, industry partners, and laboratories, has been actively monitoring the situation. Weekly meetings are held to share updates and address questions from stakeholders involved in managing this emerging animal health issue.
