
The Giard family of Saint-Simon-de-Bagot, Quebec, has been named the recipient of Holstein Canada’s 2025 Century of Holstein Award. This prestigious honor recognizes their century-long commitment to Holstein breeding and their continuous membership with the Association since 1925.
Donat Giard first joined Holstein Canada in 1925, establishing a legacy that has been upheld by successive generations. Over the past 100 years, the family has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to Holstein breeding and genetic excellence.
A Legacy of Dedication
Historical records highlight the key milestones in the Giard family’s involvement:
- 1925 to 1961 – Donat Giard actively participated in Holstein Canada.
- 1962 to 1970 – Membership continued under Donat Giard & Fils.
- 1961 to 2006 – Hermel Giard upheld the family’s commitment.
- 2006 to Present – The farm operates under Ferme Giard Enr.
The recognition will be formally presented at the Holstein Canada Annual General Meeting on April 5, 2025, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A Certificate of Recognition, issued in the name of the Descendants of Donat Giard, will be awarded to the family during the event.
