EnviTec Biogas Expands U.S. Footprint with Landmark South Dakota Project

362

EnviTec Biogas has achieved a significant milestone in the U.S. with the launch of its largest anaerobic digestion plant to date. Through its U.S. subsidiary, the company is strengthening its partnership with SJI Renewable Energy Ventures and local suppliers, further advancing its role in renewable energy.

Turning Dairy Waste into Clean Energy

Located in South Dakota, the facility has been processing over 300,000 gallons (1,100 cubic meters) of manure daily from more than 9,500 dairy cows since the start of the year. It is expected to produce 483 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) of renewable natural gas (RNG), equivalent to approximately 177,000 million BTU per year. This project reinforces EnviTec Biogas’ commitment to innovation in the U.S., following the commissioning of its first project in 2012.

The South Dakota plant is the fifth of 15 biogas facilities EnviTec is developing for a leading renewable energy and sustainability company. Eight of these projects are located on farms operated by a major diversified agribusiness in the U.S.

Sustainable Benefits for Business and the Environment

This new facility delivers advantages for both the economy and the environment. By converting organic dairy waste into renewable biogas, it reduces dairy farming’s carbon footprint while creating a valuable source of clean energy.

Advancing Local Manufacturing and Service Excellence

EnviTec Biogas is the only provider in the U.S. offering high-quality, locally manufactured concrete tanks. This is made possible through a sustainable partnership with Collins Precast LLC, a top producer of precast concrete components in the Upper Midwest.

The company’s concrete tank design is the first of its kind approved in South Dakota. In addition to constructing the biogas and biomethane upgrading facility, EnviTec has secured a multi-year service contract to provide ongoing technical support, on-demand maintenance, 24/7 hotline assistance, and biological services from its office and warehouse in Watertown, SD.

During the commissioning and ramp-up phase, EnviTec has been conducting weekly sampling and analysis through its laboratory in Watertown, ensuring smooth operation and efficiency.

Scaling Up for the Future

With the completion of its fifth project in partnership with SJI, EnviTec has now delivered one-third of the planned biogas facilities. Three additional projects have completed cold commissioning and are transitioning into the ramp-up phase. The company’s first Minnesota projects are set to go online later this year.

Since 2002, EnviTec Biogas AG has completed over 700 biogas plants across 18 countries, using feedstocks ranging from dairy manure to food waste. Its portfolio includes anaerobic digestion, gas upgrading, ammonia stripping, bio-LCO2, and bio-LNG technologies.
