Chobani has begun construction on a $1.2 billion dairy facility in Rome, New York, marking the largest natural food manufacturing investment in U.S. history. The expansion is part of the company’s continued growth, following a $500 million investment announced last month in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Built on a 150-acre site at the former Griffiss Air Force Base, the 1.4 million square-foot plant will create over 1,000 full-time jobs. It will include up to 28 production lines capable of processing 12 million pounds of milk per day and producing more than one billion pounds of dairy products each year.
As one of the state’s largest milk buyers, Chobani currently purchases over one billion pounds of raw milk annually from New York dairy farms. Once the new plant is fully operational, that figure is expected to grow to six billion pounds per year—creating new opportunities for local dairy producers and further strengthening the state’s agricultural economy.
The Rome facility will serve as more than just a production site. It’s designed to become a hub for food innovation, workforce development, and regional collaboration. Chobani plans to partner with local farmers, businesses, colleges, and community groups to drive economic growth and build a resilient food ecosystem in the Mohawk Valley.
This latest investment reinforces Chobani’s mission to make nutritious food more accessible while supporting communities and building a sustainable future.
