Four people were injured on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, after an explosion and chemical release at the Borden Dairy plant in London, Kentucky. The incident involved Hyperflex, an acid sanitizer made with phosphoric and nitric acids. Both are corrosive chemicals that can cause serious health effects on contact.

Firefighters from the London Fire Department (LFD) arrived quickly at the West Highway 80 facility. They secured the site and began decontamination to protect employees and first responders. Crews also assisted hospitals with decontamination to ensure proper treatment for anyone exposed.

Officials confirmed that none of the injuries are life-threatening. “Firefighters worked with partnering agencies to contain the hazard, protect the public, and provide medical support,” the department stated.

Mayor Randall Weddle received regular updates throughout the response. The London–Laurel County Economic Development Authority posted on social media: “An early morning explosion at the Borden plant in London left four people injured. Prayers for each of them.”

Authorities said the hazard has been contained and the public is not at risk. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
