Bonsai Robotics has announced the acquisition of farm-ng, a company known for developing modular electric robots tailored for farm operations. The merger brings together advanced AI capabilities and versatile robotic platforms, with the goal of transforming how growers manage crops and labor.

This strategic move allows Bonsai to integrate its autonomous navigation and machine vision software with farm-ng’s adaptable hardware, creating intelligent equipment designed to operate efficiently across different crop types, terrains, and farming systems. The result is a flexible automation platform aimed at reducing operational costs and addressing persistent labor shortages.

The two companies have previously worked together in specialty crops such as vineyards and orchards, building a foundation of proven field performance. Their formal integration is expected to accelerate product development and expand commercial deployment.

As part of the leadership transition, Brendan Dowdle, former CEO of farm-ng, will serve as Chief Business Officer. Bonsai also strengthens its team with key additions, including John Teeple, former technology director at John Deere, as Chief Operating Officer, and Gary Bradski—an influential figure in computer vision and founder of OpenCV—as Chief Science Officer.

The combined entity is focused on building a unified, AI-driven platform that works with both new and existing farm machinery. With deep expertise in robotics, agriculture, and artificial intelligence, the company aims to deliver practical tools that can adapt to a wide range of farm environments and improve day-to-day efficiency for producers.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but existing investors in both companies will maintain ownership in the restructured Bonsai Robotics. The acquisition marks a significant step in advancing autonomous technology for real-world agricultural applications.
